My Favorite Topicals for Pain Relief

Whether you are experiencing muscle soreness from a workout, have a muscle strain from an injury, or have chronic pain and can't sleep at night, topical ointments are an excellent tool in your toolbox to relieve pain temporarily. They can be used on any muscle or joint from pain associated with sprains, strains, bruises, arthritis, swelling, workout soreness, and chronic pain.

How do they work?

The topicals combine a pain-relieving organic compound such as camphor (extracted from the bark of Asian evergreen trees), menthol (extracted from mint plants), CBD (extracted from the Cannabis plant), or homeopathic with essential oils to create a salve or lotion that can be massaged into the skin as needed. These compounds are absorbed through the skin to provide temporary pain relief. The organic compounds interrupt the pain signals with cooling and heating sensations in the skin receptors. The topicals offer a natural approach to quick pain relief without causing side effects that typical pain medications cause.

Who can use pain relief topicals?

These can be used by almost anyone, but do not use them if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Topricin

Topricin is a homeopathic pain relief cream that can be used for arthritis, muscle, and joint aches and pains. It includes 11 natural biomedicines to increase circulation and release any underlying inflammation causing pain. It can be massaged externally onto the area of pain 3-4 times a day.

Battle Balm

Battle balm is a 100% plant-based, all-natural, organic topical pain relief cream. The company believes in sustainable sourcing of its ingredients, and there is no animal testing, fragrances, fillers, parabens, petroleums, or paraffin. Athletes or people with chronic pain conditions can use it. It can be used pre-workout to warm up the muscles or post-workout to help with muscle soreness. It can be massaged into the area, or you can apply a heating pad or ice pack on top.

CBD Clinic Pain Relief Ointment

CBD Clinic pain relief ointment combines pain-relieving plant compounds, Cannabidiol (CBD), and essential oils to create a nourishing product for the skin and relieve pain. This product will not cause psychoactive side effects because the CBD is extracted from the hemp plant that contains less than 0.3% of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Apply to the skin 3-4 times daily.

Sombra Warming Therapy

Sombra pain relieving gel combines warming and cooling plant ingredients to relieve chronic conditions and basic aches and pains. This is also an excellent gel to warm the muscles before working out. It can be applied externally 3-4 times a day as needed. Do not use with a heating pad.

Arnicare

Arnicare is a homeopathic pain relieving ointment made from Arnica montana. This plant has been used for centuries as a natural pain reliever. It is conveniently sold at a local pharmacy. It comes in gel, cream, or ointment form. The gel absorbs quickly into the skin. The cream can be used for massaging sore muscles, and the ointment adheres longer to the skin. It can be applied 3-4 times daily. Do not use it with a heating pad or ice pack.

How to use it?

Apply some onto your fingers and massage the cream into the area of pain until it is absorbed into the skin. The cream can be reapplied every 3-4 hours. It is best used in the morning and evening.
