Acupuncture

From a biomedical perspective, acupuncture is the insertion of hair-thin needles into energetic points on the body. These points send signals to the spinal cord and brain to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which controls the body's ability to relax. This activation creates a sense of calm which allows healing to take place.

In addition, hormones such as endorphins will be released, which are the body's natural painkillers. These hormones also release stress and create a sense of well-being.

Acupuncture is a traditional medicine that utilizes specific points to affect the body's organ systems, circulation, and qi (energy). In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the practitioner will identify patterns of disharmony and use specific points to bring the body back to homeostasis.

Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine can be used in conjunction with acupuncture for internal patterns of disharmony. The herbs are prescribed as a complex formula. Each formula is composed of different types of herbs with various temperatures, tastes, and functions; combined can help treat a specific pattern of dysfunction. We work with herbal pharmacies that strive to provide high-quality herbal products.

Herbal formulas can be ingested in raw, powder, or capsule form, depending on the patient’s preference. When herbal formulas are consumed, the herbs are broken down in the body, and the body absorbs the medicinal chemicals of each herb in the formula.

Other Treatments

Other treatment modalities may be selected during an acupuncture session at the practitioner's discretion. Some of the additional modalities include:
